From 24 to 26 June 2025, the University of Aveiro will host the BOLD Summer School – Teachers as Change Makers for Linguistic and Cultural Diversity: Voices and Experiences of Student Teachers. This event will bring together student teachers from the project’s partner institutions — the University of Aveiro, Universität Hamburg, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid — as well as students from the University of Athens and the University of Thessaloniki, involved through a close collaboration with Web2Learn.
Rooted in the principles of Service-Learning, the Summer School will create a space for reflection, learning and exchange on how linguistic and cultural diversity can be addressed in teacher education as both a goal and a tool for civic engagement. The programme is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of key concepts such as intercultural citizenship education, linguistic equality, social action, and language activism — while fostering their ability to work collaboratively with educational stakeholders.
Over three days, students will critically reflect on their Service-Learning experiences within the BOLD project, exploring the role of future teachers as agents of social justice and inclusivity. By sharing practices and envisioning strategies for meaningful engagement with local communities, the Summer School aims to strengthen participants’ capacities to integrate linguistic and cultural diversity into their future professional contexts.
