1st BOLD webinar: “Linguistic equality as a basis for social and educational justice”

On the past 12th of February took place the first webinar held by BOLD project. With an attendance of 33 participants, in this dissemination event, we opened space to the opportunity to learn about concrete ways, activities and learning outcomes regarding social justice in higher education to promote linguistic and cultural diversity. After an introduction to the project by Sílvia Melo-Pfeifer & Katerina Zourou, the guest of honor Melina Porto presented a case study on “Transforming trauma and suffering into action in teacher education”. Afterwards, teacher education was one of the main pillars that was addressed in Joana Duarte & Nadja Gerritsen’s presentation on “Social action to foster linguistic and cultural diversity in higher education” and in Susana Pinto & Mónica Lourenço’s talk about “Integrating linguistic diversity and social justice into higher education curricula”. Moreover, Manuel Alcantara Pla & Ana Ruiz gave interesting insights into the “Toolkit for higher education and staff embarking in social action towards linguistic and cultural diversity”. Finally, the presentations led to a vivid discussion about linguistic rights and (the limits and challenges of) activism in (language) teacher education.
